Archive is situated at former building of the Lubranski Academy.
The building is located to the north-side of the Cathedral.
It's on the street which is called by bishop's Lubranski name.
The building was built of red bricks. It has typical features
of Gothic architecture. The building is quadrilateral and
it has a square open area. Jan Lubranski famous lawyer and
humanist, was well educated at the university in Kraków, Bologna
and Rome. As the Poznan bishop he turned out to be one of
the most distinguished Maecenas of science. The crowning achievement
of his life was endowing the Academy which was named Academia
Lubransciana. It was the oldest academy in Poznan. It came
into beginning at the end of bishop's life. He died soon after
the first professors was called. The building wasn't finished
yet. Bishop Lubranski didn't lived to see it.
n XVII century
the Academy was submitted to Academy in Kraków. In XVIII The
building was adopted to library and the Theological Seminary.
At that time the wooden gallery was rebuild into the closed
passage. During 1924 -1925 the building was adapted to the
needs of new Archive.
